Garbage and Recycling

em_p

Recycling has become the most effective way to reduce the amount of garbage going to our landfill sites.  The Council is committed to improving the waste diversion activities in Laurentian Hills to prolong the life of our landfill site.  The more we can recycle, the better for the environment and our wallets.  Help your community by continuing to recycle what you can and remember to make use of the Re-Use area at the Landfill Site.

Recycling in Laurentian Hills

The Town has a NEW recycling Contractor and program. As of January 2009 our new Contractor is Tomlinson Environmental Services Inc. Pick ups will be every TUESDAY and will alternate between fibers one week and other recycling materials the next.

Click HERE to download a printable version of the recycling pick-up schedule.

Recycling items should be put in a blue or yellow recycling box and must be set out at curbside no later than 7:30 a.m. Yellow boxes are for fibers/paper. Blue boxes are for plastics, cans, plastic bags, aluminum etc. For more information click here.

If your recycling or garbage has been missed, please contact the office by 2 p.m. ON THE DAY OF PICK-UP so we can contact the contractors and arrange for pick-up.

Subscribers to the Ottawa Citizen Newspaper can recycle the plastic bags that the paper comes in by collecting them and put them back into your Citizen Delivery Box.  They will be collected by the distributor for reuse.

Garbage Pick-up in Laurentian Hills

Garbage pick-up in Laurentian Hills is collected by P&G Pumping every week.  The pick up in the west end of the Town is on Tuesdays and on Fridays in the east end.  We ask that seasonal residents on our rural roads please contact the Office to let us know you have arrived for the season so that we may inform the contractor and your garbage won't be missed.  Our Waste Disposal Site is open 5 days a week for bulk items.  See below for the hours of operation.

North Renfrew Waste Disposal Site

The Waste Disposal Site is located on Bagg's Rd. off of Plant Rd. in Chalk River.  The Site opened in July of 2002 in a joint effort from the Towns of Laurentian Hills and Deep River and is looked after by the North Renfrew Landfill Operations Board.  The Board consists of two members of council each from Laurentian Hills and Deep River and one resident.  Site Manager, James Leon, works out of the Point Alexander Municipal Offices and can be reached at 584-9194.  Following the guidelines of the Ministry of the Environment, the Board is dedicated to diverting as much waste as possible from the site through various programs such as the Tire Recycling Program, the Re-Use area, the Household Hazardous Waste Area, Composting, Scrap Metal Area and Brush and Wood Chipping Programs.

All demolition Waste must be taken to the Town of Deep River's Miller's Rd. Waste Site.  This will help extend the life of our Bagg's Rd. Site.  Please contact the Deep River Town Office (584-2000) for tipping fees and hours of operation.  You can visit the North Renfrew Landfill Operations Board's website at www.magma.ca/~nrwmb/
